Tasmania’s Stunning Trial Bay House Is For Sale

Located about 30 minutes south of Hobart in Kettering is one of Tasmania’s most outstanding homes, and it’s currently on the market.

Trial Bay House was originally designed by architect Ray Heffernan in the 1970s. The vendors purchased property in 2002, later engaging architect James Jones to completely renovate the home, while adding a new living room, verandah, courtyard and garage.

The existing dwelling’s gable form, external wall lines, and timber ceiling were all retained, but the internal walls, internal and external openings, surfaces, and fittings were updated.

A highlight of the renovation is the ‘Channel Room’—a robust pavilion made of precast concrete panels framing the property’s D’Entrecasteaux Channel views. The room is described as an ‘abstraction of a cinematographer’s camera, whereby the apertures have been adjusted to subject, view, and light’ to heighten the experience of the magnificent site.

Jones’ highly successful renovation was awarded the Australian Institute of Architects’ prestigious Robin Boyd Award for Residential Architecture in 2010, becoming the first house in Tasmania to achieve this honour.

Trial Bay House is one remarkable home, in a truly breathtaking location. The property is situated on 42 acres inclusive of a contained guest house and features a 10kW solar array with a Tesla battery.

3101 Channel Highway, Kettering, Tasmania is listed with Forbes Global Properties for sale via expressions of interest.
